Buckden Consultants

Buckden Consultants have over fifteen years’ experience and hundreds of individuals that have been assisted in their own development, we are justly proud of our achievements. Our clients range from 6 to 60 years old and range from the gifted to those with moderate learning difficulties. Based in Crafton on the Herts/Beds/Bucks border, we offer a range of educational and psychological based assessments.
No parent likes to see their children struggling at school. Educational testing & assessment can be useful in matters concerning learning, well-being and development. Our assessments can diagnose specific learning difficulties such as Dyslexia. In addition we are able to assessments for Access Arrangements for exams.
For adults in addition to the above we are able to offer assessments for Disabled Student Allowance (DSA) and work based assistance. With the exception of Access Assessments our Reports for college, university or place of work to suggest ways in which they can further support you.
We currently not only work with individuals but also a number of schools and FE colleges.
Disabled Students Allowance

Disabled Students Allowance (DSA) is a Government grant that can pay for extra equipment and support that you may need as a direct result of your disability, on-going health condition, sensory impairment, mental-health condition or specific learning difficulty. As well as computer hardware and software and other specialist equipment you may be able to use the grant to help with the cost of having a non-medical helper, specialist equipment, and the cost of extra travel and other items for your course, such as extra books and photocopying.
You are eligible for DSA if you are a student on a higher education course who lives in England and can prove that you have a disability, medical condition, sensory impairment, mental-health condition or a specific learning difficulty which affects your ability to study.
Dyslexia Assessment

We specialise in the assessment of specific learning difficulties by providing to individuals, schools, FE Colleges and companies dyslexia testing assessments that identify dyslexia, as well as other difficulties, learning styles, learning strengths and weaknesses.
We offer specialist assessments for individuals of any age who feel that they or their child are not progressing as well as they might and who would like to know exactly where their difficulties lie and ways in which they can be supported to enable them to learn and achieve in order to maximize their full potential.
Access Arrangements for Exams

Candidates with particular physical or learning needs can find themselves disadvantaged when it comes to taking an exam. Access arrangements help support learners with particular needs so that they can access their exams as easily as anyone else can. They make sure that all candidates have equal access to exams and that no-one has an unfair advantage over anyone else. For candidates with learning difficulties you will need a report, dated within three years of the exam, written by an educational, clinical or occupational psychologist, or by a teacher with a specialist qualification in special needs. If a candidate only needs 25% extra time to finish the exam, the report can be dated from the time they began secondary school.
Teenagers given updated advice on A-level choices
The top research universities in the UK are changing their advice for young people choosing A-levels subjects.
An interactive website from the Russell Group has just been launched to replace a controversial list of traditional academic subjects said to help entry. Many arts organisations said the old approach led to creative subjects being marginalised in schools.
The new more flexible approach allows a wider range of A-levels to be highlighted. On the new website, pupils will be able to type in a subject area and see the range of degrees on offer or choose a particular university course and see what A-levels they would need to secure a place.

More than 70 school sixth forms closing as cuts bite
More than 70 school sixth forms have shut over the past three years or are set to be closed amid major funding pressures. Geoff Barton, the general secretary of the Association of School and College Leaders, has warned that a lack of funding is driving a “forced reshaping of post-16 education” away from schools.

School playtime is becoming a thing of the past for a generation of children, new report finds
Just one per cent of secondary schools now have afternoon breaks compared to 41 per cent almost three decades ago, according to study by University College London’s Institute of Education.
Researchers examined how school breaks and children’s social lives have changed over time by comparing data from over 1,000 primary and secondary schools in 2017, 2006 and 1995.
There has been a “marked reduction” in the total amount of break time children are allowed, with 11 to 16-year-olds now having 65 minutes per week less than they did a quarter of a century ago.
